Founded in 2020 by Rafik Kheffache, Heliosand aims to harness concentrated solar energy to convert waste into materials suitable for the construction industry. In France alone, 700,000 tons of mineral industrial waste are generated annually—ten times that amount across Europe. Heliosand’s technology, which relies on concentrated solar energy, promises to transform these wastes into construction-grade materials. Construction sand is, in fact, the most consumed resource after air and water, and its natural depletion is leading to significant environmental and social challenges. Heliosand’s approach has the potential to reduce the overall environmental impact of various industries by 30 to 40%. Moreover, the equipment developed by the start-up can reach extremely high temperatures—up to 1,400 °C, and even 2,500 °C—delivering performance that outmatches the competition.
