Rafik Kheffache, founder of Heliosand, has set himself no less a challenge than decarbonizing part of industrial activity. His goal is to achieve this by using the sun for what it does best: heating.
Rafik Kheffache’s project at Heliosand involves manufacturing solar furnaces for industry. “The number one goal of the company is to decarbonize industry. Industry pollutes by heating, burning, cutting, and melting… So many thermal processes that can be performed using solar heat, the largest known energy source in the world. Every day, hundreds of thousands of megawatts reach Earth in the form of heat. We try to generate electricity with solar panels, but they only convert 20% of the solar energy they receive. Heliosand can convert 80% into heat, directly, without transformation or loss.”
